Homework

Room 3 Homework 2012
Homework will be handed out on Monday and back by Friday of the same week.
Quality work is expected at all times

The homework in room 3 this year will be in 4 parts.

1.Reading
10-15 minutes each night
If your child is a keen recreational reader and regularly reads for pleasure in their own time then this part of the homework is already covered! I will be providing a home reading programme for some children.

2.Basic facts
100 facts to be correctly completed in 6 mins test on Friday.

3.Spelling
Your child will have up to a total of 10 words to learn to spell each week. These words will be drawn from several sources e.g written language, written reading work, homework, research and project work etc.
Each student will write out their personal list of up to 10 spelling words in the back of their homework book with 3 columns next to the list. This is their learning list for the week.
The spelling task for the week is to learn the correct spelling of these words
Each student in the class will have a different set of words to learn. During the week, students will usually be tested once by a classmate. Teacher testing of all students is impractical and parents/caregivers are asked to test the child on these words, to tick each word as they are satisfied that it is learnt and to sign the list to confirm that they have tested it. I will then check the list on Friday. Error in final testing will be carried over to following week.

4.Written or other work
In term 1 and possibly term 2, I will be providing homework tasks to be completed and handed in on alternate weeks. The week which I do not provide homework I will
expect a minimum of up to 10 written complex sentences using spelling words or a project of their own choice e.g story writing, research, art, puzzles, codes or homework topics that another student has introduced.
Thinking of what to do can be challenging and your help may be needed.
Totara dollars will be rewarded for effort, creativity and quality!
Your support in ensuring that homework is completed and books returned each Friday, and your encouragement and support of your child’s work is appreciated.
Many Thanks
Choi
